Yangon University of Distance Education

Department of Law

Dear Students,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Yangon University of Distance Education and, in particular, to the Department of Law. I extend my warmest greetings to each of you as you begin or continue your academic journey with us.

The Department of Law was established in 1992, alongside the founding of Yangon University of Distance Education. I joined YUDE in 2015 and have had the honor of serving as Professor and Head of the Department since 2017.

The importance of legal education cannot be overstated. As it is often said, “Law means any rule of action,” and “Ignorance of the law excuses no one.” It is essential for every citizen to should know and must obey the law. Legal education plays a vital role in the development of any country, and in Myanmar, two types of legal education are offered—through conventional universities and distance universities.

At YUDE, we are proud to offer legal education through distance learning in alignment with our university’s motto: “For one’s desire, education is never too far.” This system allows us to extend the reach of legal knowledge across the country, making education accessible to those who may not be able to attend a traditional university setting.

Currently, we offer both LLB (Bachelor of Laws) and B.A. (Law) programs. The LLB is a professional degree, while the B.A. (Law) is an academic degree that can serve as a stepping stone toward entry into the LLB program.

I strongly encourage all students to take full advantage of this opportunity to study law—a subject that is not only intellectually rewarding but also highly relevant to every aspect of public and private life. I also urge you to actively participate in the Department’s extracurricular activities, such as mock trials, court visits, and community legal education programs, which are designed to enhance your practical understanding of the law.

I wish you every success in your studies and hope your time with us will be both enriching and inspiring.

With warm regards,

Dr Tin HtayEi

Dean, Department of Law
